Pet Adoption Program for Those 55 Plus

Why Now's the Right Time for a Pet in Your Life

Owning a Pet Can Benefit Your Health

It's true - having a pet can boost your vitality and health, not to mention bring new adventures to your days. That's why we want to make it easier than ever for you to welcome a new cat or dog into your home. If you're 55 or over, you qualify for a free, Purina-funded cat or dog adoption from participating local shelters while funds are available.

We Can Help You Find the Right Pet for Your Lifestyle

If you go to one of the participating shelters, we'll fund the adoption of a
new pet for eligible adopters while funds are available.

Here's all you have to do:

1. Check out this list of shelters and select one near you.

2. Print your coupon and head to your chosen shelter to find the right pet for you.

3. Once your adoption is complete, the shelter will provide you with dog or cat food coupons, plus an adoption certificate for your new pet.

3 Reasons Why Now's the Time for a Pet

  1. Pets can help make your lifestyle healthier.

Not only do pets give us another reason to play around and take walks, but just owning a pet in general can boost your health. Lower triglycerides, cholesterol levels and even medical costs are associated with pet ownership.

  2. Your pet can make your adventures more special.

Pets can change your outlook on life, and invigorate your childlike sense of wonder and exploration. Beyond that, pets can help bring families together and help us get to know our neighbors. When you're a pet-lover, it's easy to meet and form friendships with other pet-lovers like you.

The world is becoming more pet friendly every day.

It's becoming easier than ever to travel with a pet, or find comfy accommodations for your pet while you're off exploring the globe. Some airlines let dogs under 20 lbs. fly with you and certain hotels provide welcome kits for pets. Visit Petcentric to find out more about traveling with your pet.

Having a Pet is Good for You

It's science! Here are a few proven reasons why owning a pet can boost your health:

  • Seniors who own dogs visit the doctor less often than seniors who don't. Maybe it's because dogs help prevent and treat stress.
  • Pet owners tend to have lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
  • Pet owners tend to experience fewer minor health issues, and have lower medical costs too boot.
  • Pet owners tend to experience a better sense of psychological wellbeing than those without pets.
  • Pet owners have a higher one-year survival rate after being diagnosed with coronary heart disease.
