What Health Problems Can Affect My Dog's Nose?

Listen

>Dogs rely heavily on their sense of smell, so keep a close eye on your pup’s nose. Many problems can affect this sensitive canine organ. For example, if a dog is sneezing violently, the animal may have inhaled a foreign body. A runny nose, on the other hand, could indicate an illness or allergy, and discharge could be a sign of an infection.

For a part of the dog that’s out front leading the way, the nose doesn’t have much protection. So when a pup digs with his nose, it can become ulcerated. If you notice that your dog is pawing at his muzzle or rubbing it on the floor, it could mean that he has something stuck in his nose. If so, don’t try to remove it yourself. Call your veterinarian instead.
