What minerals does my dog need in his diet?

Listen

Minerals are an important component of your dog’s diet. Bone and cartilage formation, hormone production, and nervous system functioning all depend upon minerals, working together with vitamins and enzymes.

To be most effective, minerals must be fed in the correct ratios. For example, calcium and phosphorous are critical to bone health, but an imbalance could cause weakness.

Other much-needed minerals include magnesium, which keeps the heart functioning well; potassium, which helps build strong muscles; and sodium, which is important to cellular activity.

A complete and balanced pet food contains the proper balance of essential minerals. If you have any questions about your dog’s diet, ask your veterinarian.
